KRAUS - GRIP THE MOON Tape

Label:     none
Year:       2017
Country: New Zealand

Kraus from Auckland, New Zealand is still a bit overseen even if this is already his 15th album. You get instrumental repetitive tunes that maintain a deep, well crafted sound. Kraus takes you on a deep psychedelic journey that really gets under your skin. The recordings recall the spirit of 70s krautrock and space rock even if they circulate in their very own galaxy.

S-21 - YEAR ZERO 7"

Label:     Slugsalt / World Gone Mad
Year:       2016
Country: USA

Stomping mid-tempo hardcore from Philadelphia. Heavy, pissed off songs fronted by some really powerful vocals. Great stuff.

PIERRE & BASTIEN - MUSIQUE GRECQUE LP

Label:     SDZ
Year:       2017
Country: France

Hailing from Paris Pierre & Bastien play a stripped down style of post-punk. "Musique Grecque contains nine tracks based on repetitive song structures, driving monotonic beats and subliminal melodies. The songs are catchy but at the same time they show rough edges. Pierre & Bastien take cues from British post-punk bands like Wire or Swell Maps, but don't get me wrong: this LP speaks it's very own musical language. Highly recommended!

NIGHTWATCHERS - GOOD KIDS OBEY 12"

Label:     P.Trash
Year:       2017
Country: France

After having a look on the cover artwork I expected some crust/d-beat. But I was completely wrong: Nightwatchers from Toulouse play fast pop-punk with some hints of garage and 70s punk. The seven songs are sharp and tighty catchy little numbers that remind me of Hex Dispensers.

SVART KATT - ROSTA SÖNDER 7"

Label:     P.Trash
Year:       2017
Country: Sweden

Five tracks of modern Swedish retro punk made with plenty of sweet melodies. For fans of Masshysteri or Terrible Feelings.

THE DANCE ASTHMATICS - LIFETIME OF SECRETION LP

Label:     Ever/Never/ Melted Ice Cream
Year:       2015
Country: New Zealand

One of may favourite records of 2015. Many bands claim to sound unique but in the end it's just artifical crap. This is not the case for The Dance Asthmatics from Christchurch. This band has developed an open-minded style of post-punk that appears unbelievable authentic. 10 out of 10 points.

BOOJI BOYS - S/T LP

Label:     Drunken Sailor
Year:       2017
Country: Canada

2017 just started and here's already one of this year's highlight records. The twelve songs are fast, wild and raw, but at the same time Booji Boys don't forget to add plenty of catchy melodies. A perfect punkrock record.

MY DAD - MOUTH BLEEDER 7"

Label:     Naked Alley/ Black Lake
Year:       2014
Country: USA

I didn't think that bands like My Dad are still around today: This Chicago-based three-piece recalls the classic sound of 90s math-rock, while adding some hints of indie-rock and emo for good measure. Reminds me of Don Caballero and stuff like that.

WOODBOOT - CRIME TIME LP

Label:     Erste Theke Tonträger
Year:       2016
Country: Australia

Blasting punkrock made with great hooks, raw energy and humor. Somewhere between The Spits, "Ass Cobra" era Turbonegro and current bands like The Liquids or  Buck Biloxi & The Fucks.

VARIOUS - OFFICE SUPPLIES - AN UNBLINKING EAR MIXTAPE Tape

Label:     Unblink Ear
Year:       2016
Country: USA

12 bands each with one track. Great stuff if you have a preference for early 90s indierock. Sex Tide and Honey Radar are my personal favourites. A well done label compilation.

BAD ERIC - 6 SONG Tape

Label:     none
Year:       2016
Country: USA

Bad Eric from Greensboro play a pummeling, mid-tempo style of hardcore fronted by gruff pissed off vocals. Like a mix of Negative Approach, Hoax and Lumpy & The Dumpers.

PINK/BLACK - DEMO

Label:     none
Year:       2016
Country: USA

Hardcorepunk from Boston with a driving urgency, pissed off vocals and a tight rhythm section.

PINCHGUT - S/T 7"

Label:      One Brick Today/ Nettle
Year:        2016
Country: Australia

Political hardcore from Australia that reminds me of 90s Profane Existence releases. A great mix of straight hardcore, emotional melodies and some Crass-style spoken word parts.

KALTE LUST - S/T 7"

Label:      Destructure
Year:        2017
Country:  France

This is really a highlight among all those boring current dark post-punk bands. Their vinyl debut.

DOUCHE FROIDE - S/T LP

Label:     Build Me A Bomb
Year:       2014
Country: France

Douche Froide recall the classic sound of early 80s UK wave groups like Siouxsie And The Banshees, The Sound, The Cure or New Order. They merge echoing guitars, hard driving drum beats and energetic bass lines. The outstanding vocals remind me of Brigitte Fontaine.

SNOB - EXPLOIT ME 7"

Label:     Hardware
Year:       2014
Country: Canada

Ripping Canadian hardcore somewhere between early Ripcord and SS Decontrol. Six songs of raw hardcore. The title track is a scorcher.

NERVOSAS - 7 SONG 12"

Label:     Build Me A Bomb
Year:       2016
Country: USA

Nervosas from Ohio fuse the directness and energy of punk with dark post-punk influences. Think Marked Men meets The Wipers.

PISS - STUCK IN THE GUTTER Tape/7"

Label:      Static Age
Year:        2017
Country:  Germany

This is the kind of noisy hardcore that you would normaly expect from a Toxic State release. Piss from Berlin play blown out hardcore built on raw energy, passion and intensity.

SUN BATHER - WAITING 7"

Label:     Hjernespind
Year:       2015
Country: Denmark

Second 7" from these K-town punks. This time the band brings a rougher, more dirty sound. But everything's still very much in the classic vein of garage/punk.
