Rubber Mate from Cleveland fuse noise-rock with primitive hardcore-punk. Imagine a mix of Brainbombs and The Homostupids. The demented vocals are one main highlight and the whole single is a total banger.
This is a collection of songs previously released a demos. The cassette is filled to the brim with infectious lo-fi punk/garage. The songs are simple and straightforward, have really impressive screaming vocals and a unique scratchy guitar-work that make this stand out.
Label: Doombringer, Phobia, Crust War, Headnoise, Not Enough Year: 2017 Country: Japan & Indonesia
This split release originally came out as a CS in 2015. Now five labels from all over the world bring the vinyl version. Life is a long running Japanese Crust/HC group that doesn't need an introduction. You get two brilliant tracks that are as great as all their previous releases. On the flipside Zudas Krust from Indonesia dish up super raw and noisy hardcorepunk.
This is the first full lenght since eight years from Richmond's Cloak/Dagger. Taking inspiration from a wide variety of bands ranging from 'early 80s punk/hc like Black Flag or Circle Jerks, '60s garage-punk and more current groups like Hot Snakes or Drive Like Jehu, the four-piece continues to develop their signature style.
The latest release from New York's Kaleidoscope and it's another hit platter. Not half of the year has passed, but this 12" will definitely be part of my best of 2017 list. A unique mix of post-punk and noise-punk with some hints of hardcore added for good measure.
On this 12" you get four songs driven by dissonant bass lines and weird sax parts. Playboy from Quebec take influences from bands like Flipper, Pere Ubu and No Trend to create their own merciless style of noisy post-punk. Brilliant!
Label: Goodbye Boozy Year: 2017 Country: Australia
Another winner release from Italy's Goody Boozy Records. This 7" was originaly released as a CS last year and now here's a vinyl version. Bikini Cops play brilliant '70s punkrock that sounds like it was taken from a "Where The Birdmen Flew" compilation.
